VIRGEM RIVER - North Coast
*

We depart from Santa Cruz de Cabralia, 22 km away from Porto Seguro, on a typical fishing boat and we sail through one of the branches of Joao de Tiba River.

The tranquil waters run through the "manguizal" (typical and abundant forestation from the rivers and marshes of the area), and they are the ideal place to practice adventure sports and photographic safari. Here you will see an enormous amount of migratory and native birds.

In this journey the boat goes up through Joao de Tiba River (01 hour 40 min) passing by places where the "caboclos" (a mixture of aborigines and black people), who work in the production of "piacava" (used in the roofs of aborigines' houses), live; after that we reach a branch of the river used centuries ago by the Pataxós aborigines as an old passage to arrive safe and sound to their hiding places.

Once in the affluent, named the Mutum River, it is possible to see the "farinheiras", working flour houses in a still, where handmade "cachaca" is manufactured. In the "manguizal" we are able to see the habitat where the crabs, aratus, and blue heron live.

Activities included in this journey are bathing in the river and a picnic (included in the fare), which along with the comradeship and new friends, constitute basics to overcome the different obstacles that rivers and native forestation pose.

Finally, on Mutum River, we moor the boat on the "fazenda" banks of a Caboclan family and we will get to know their lifestyle. The return journey is by land, according to the amount of passengers (minimum 6 passengers).

TRANCOSO BY NIGHT
*

Located at 27 km to the south of Porto Seguro, the Troncoso district was born in 1586, and in 1759 was upgraded to Villa, and it gave origin to an old Jesuit village that is called São Joao Batista dos Indios.

On the "Cuadrado" (square in movement), typical Jesuit settlement, is located the Church and the quaint colourful houses, which have been transformed into shops, pubs, restaurants, and lodges; this area is known for its quality handicrafts and artists. Centenary trees, such as the jaqueiras, mangueiras, amendoeiras, and jacarandas, frame the special atmosphere of the cuadrado, which summarizes to a certain extent Troncoso's everyday life. This small Villa, and the historical cuadrado, in particular towards the end of the afternoon, takes the visitor back in time to the life in the old days. This is a different and special trip.

This is the ideal place to do some shopping and to have dinner (not included) in a relaxed place, in the light of the candles.

"Reality Tourism" arose from the necessity to widen the knowledge of the place to be visited, mainly on its cultural and human aspects.

5 km away from downtown Porto Seguro, it is located the Bahiano neighbourhood, where a big fair of regional products takes place on Sundays (small farmers trade their products there). The fair, which shows perfectly the culture of Bahia, presents its exotic aspect in every detail.

Although it has only been there for a few years, the fair is considered one of the biggest in the interior of the bay.
Our privileged relationship with the people responsible for the neighbourhood allows us to have access to certain places with total security; the tour is done with guides duly accredited and specialized.

We donate 20 percent of the money collected on this trip to the local community, and the visitors buy baskets with basic products, which are given later to the most disadvantaged inhabitants.
